Fleet Boston Pavilion
Boston, MA
August 20, 2005
We started out about 12:30 PM, heading for Boston, with the intention of picking up Val and Rusty at the hotel and then heading into Boston itself for a bit. However, the best laid plans, and all that. Steph was going to drive and we picked up the directions to the hotel off the hotels website. We were following the directions that said “From the North,” thinking that’s where we are in relation to Boston. Well, no, not really. We are north of Boston, of course, but the directions the hotel has are from even farther than we are, and did us no good at all. We finally stopped at another Sheraton hotel and got the real directions from them. Unfortunately, it meant we had to backtrack a lot, and ended up not being able to do any sightseeing.
At any rate, we finally arrived at the hotel and met Val at she and Jaly’s room. We had some time to freshen up a bit, take some pictures and then we headed down to the bar for a pre-show drink. We were sitting there, just talking and all of a sudden, I’m being hugged by a strange man! It was Rusty, of course. And he’s only mildly strange! He’s just as sweet in person as he is online, and at least twice as funny! And he just never stops talking! And then Jaly came in, who is just as nice, though much quieter than Rusty. Although I think about anyone would have trouble keeping up with him! So we chatted for a while and then we grabbed taxis to the venue, since Rusty had to get there for Street Team duty. Val and Jaly had 5 star packages and Rusty had a 4 star, so they went to pick those up. We met Glenn-from-the-UK and had a very nice chat with him for a few minutes. He said their bus driver the day before had recommended the seafood place on the corner, so my girls and I went there to get something to eat. We also saw Bonnie and Mia outside the venue.
Now, the show. Second night in a row for the guys and you wouldn’t know it by the enegy on that stage! Same set list as Friday, and no Deen lead on Saturday, either. But they absolutely rocked, yet again. Steve is just awesome on his guitar. I love watching him play. And he just sings like an angel- I am so completely a fan of his voice and talents. He has such wonderful stage presence and audiences just seem to love him! How could they help it? This was the second really hot and humid night in a row, and there were a very few, minor hoarse moments from both Steve and Jonathan. But, heck, the way they work, night after night, with those multiples in row- I wouldn’t be able to sing a note, so my hat is off to them. Same five from Generations as on Friday, and again, Steph and I were among the few who stayed on our feet through all of them and sang along. The singing along, I understand- most of those people only got the CD that night, but come on. If you can stand for Don’t Stop Believin’ and Open Arms and Separate Ways, you can stand for the new stuff, too. People seemed to enjoy it- they were bouncing along in their seats. And they applauded and yelled enthusiastically when they were over. Again, Faith in the Heartland, Every Generation and Out of Harm’s Way got good response. We got a little closer to the stage for the encore, but securtiy wasn’t letting anyone too close.
Let’s see, at one point, Steve ran into Ross’ microphone stand and knocked it over. Ross gave him a “Hey! Watch what you’re doin’ there, buddy!” look. It was a funny moment. And then, near the end, some guy rushed the stage on Jonathan’s side, ran across to Neal and gave him a high five, before Aaron came out and dragged him away. I think that’s why security was being so tight about people getting too close to the stage at the end.
We got a taxi back to the hotel after the show- that was a fun ride. With a group of local people who were also at the concert and were being dropped off at some bar. I think they left the van thinking we were all completely crazy! Mostly thanks to Rusty! You nut! Stopped at the Uno’s across from the hotel for a late night snack and then Steph, Kryss and I drove home- late night and we were tired, but it was well worth it. Again, thank you, Journey for a second most wonderful concert.
